The.»time has come, 2020 is winding down to an end
and we are all hoping and praying that this year ends
in a much better fashion than it has been. From the
COVID-19 pandemic to mass protests, it seems 2020 has
been difficult for eyeryone.
Here at the News Letter Journal we have done our be,st
to stay positive, to share the happiness that Newcastle
and Weston County have to offer and to encourage others
to do the same. As we move into the last few holidays of
this year, we hope to continue to spread as much cheer
as we can.
In upcoming editions of the paper we will provide a
look at all of the big news from 2020 and present to you
the nominees for the News Letter Journal’s Person of
the Year.
The people in this community always rally behind
each other and this is even more evident in trying times.
Let’s all come together these next few weeks and spread
as much cheer as possible. Let’s put our differences in
opinions aside and be thankful for the community, family
and friends.
One thing we all have in common is that we can’t wait
to say goodbye to 2020 and see the good things that can
happen in 2021.
From the crew at the News Letter Journal, Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are thankful for all
of you, our readers, our advertisers and our supporters.
There is no way we could do this without you!

The taste of real maple syrup and mOre fun facts
There are few things in
nature as sweet as real maple
syrup. Now, if you’ve never

French and British settlers how

Despite the COVID- l 9
pandemic and the presidential
election, when I look back
at 2020, the digital news site
called Cowboy State Daily, of
which I am the pub—

memories of the past
12 months.
I would

newsletter. It’s free.
It certainly is not a competition
to the high-quality local news-
paper you are reading right
now. Wyoming has the best
newspapers in the country and
the one you are reading right
now is among the best.
Go to www.cowboystate—

not regret it.
What a year 2020 has been!
As a new company, Cowboy
State Daily faced the dual
calamities of the COVID-l9
pandemic and the decline in the
state’s fossil fuel economy. It
has been a devastating disaster.

sugar content. A typical
sugaring season lasts 4 to 6
weeks. A pattern of fi‘eezing and
thawing temperatures (below
freezing at night and 40—45
degrees Fahrenheit during the
day) will build up pressure
within the trees causing the
sap to flow from the tap holes.
Sugaring season ends when
the warmer days of late spring
cause the leaf buds to unfold.
All of the syrup is now labeled
Grade A, and there are descrip-
tors to help you understand
color and flavor.
And yet in the face of this, we
have continued to grow.
In my opinion, nobody
covered the COVID-19 story
better than we did. We pub-
lished over 800 news
stories about the issue.
Every day, a compre-
hensive map showing
all the counties with
all the cases, was
featured.
This two-year—old
daily digital statewide
news service contains
a web site featuring
constantly updated
Wyoming news and an
email newsletter called “coffee

mornings a week.
We have been growing fast
all year — averaging 1,000 new
subscribers to our newsletter
each month. We encourage
people who subscribe to reach
out to their fiiends and get
them to subscribe, too.
The site is like a lot of
modern news entities — it is a

To Editor:
I don’t usually write to the News Letter Journal
this often, and certainly not in two subsequent
editions, but it appears we have a serious disease
through our community. I am sounding the
first alert. No, not the ‘China Virus,’ but rather
political amnesia.
It S¢¢ms to seriously mat
those with a‘ Democrat Party
i' pre—eXiSting condition. The‘ latest
.victim appears to be Professor .-
" Baird who is imploring our
congressional delegation to “Stop
the Madness” perpetrated by the
“madman Trump.” He says the
madness endangers our
democracy.
First, let me correct the notion that the US.
is a democracy. We are actually a Constitutional
Republic that chooses our representatives by
democratic means.
Second, what is more dangerous to our demo-
cratic elections than to allow non-citizens to vote,
to allow citizens to vote multiple times, to allow
the dead to vote, and to blatantly allow the disre-
gard of state election laws?
Professor Baird, for some reason, did not find
,it maddening that his political associates spent four
years claiming that the duly elected President was
illegitimate, claiming that he was a Russian agent
and then investigating his non-existent crimes for
three years.
Only later did we find out that the investigation
was based on a false dossier that the Democrat
Party bought from Russian agents and which
corrupt FBI leaders weaponized into an illegiti-
mate investigation.

all your efforts to make Christmas a happy time of

Maple Syrup Classifications
To know you’re getting the
right level of maple intensity,
you’ve got to know which
grade to buy. Not sure? There
are two primary maple syrup
classifications, with additional
subcategories based on color
and flavor profiles. The grades
refer directly to the color and
taste of the sap. Syrup made
from sap collected early in the
season has a lighter color, while
syrup made later in the season,
