"Friday was a good first meet," he declared, admitting that he was prepared for his new swimmers to suffer a few snafus. "We have so many kids who have not swam and right off the bat, they were competing in a relay meet, which is so chaotic. Because every race is a relay, there are many kids standing behind the block so you just have to hope your guys are where they should be at the right time. It always makes me nervous when I have a lot of new kids and it's their first meet, but we did just fine," Scribner smiled. That situation can indeed be 0vei he!ming for a newcomer, given they must read the heat sheet for what event they are swimming, as well as see what heat and what lane the team has been assigned. In addition to being a bit green regarding high school swim J. meet procedures, Scribner's 1 men were also one of only two 3A schools competing against a predominantly 4A field. Though the squad finished last overall, they were only 10 points behind Buffalo, the only other 3A team. Of the five relay events, the Dogies finished 19th in the 200 Medley, 24th in the 200 Freestyle, 14th in the 200 Butterfly and sixth in the boys 13-14 200 Relay. Unfortunately, the squad was disqualified in the 200 Backstroke and the 200 Breaststroke. On Saturday, the Dogies were back in Gillette for the Pentathlon, which is a meet con- sisting of five events.
