The junior varsity team will start the action on Saturday in the Dome at 2:00 p.m. followed by the varsity match. The senior night ceremony will take place prior to the varsity warm-up. Volleyball v. The other cross country senior parents are feeling the same thing, as well as the parents of the swimmers, and the football and volleyball seniors. This Friday, the football boys will be honored, and on Saturday it's the volleyball girls' turn. I know that several of those parents are in the same boat as I am, with a child in a Dogie uniform that will be the last one to leave their nest. Not that it's easy to let any child go, but when it's the last I think it becomes even a little more difficult. After six-plus years of following our kids as they competed in their various sporting activities, I'm not sure we will know what to do with ourselves next year. For me at least, it's the thought of not seeing them in their uniforms on that course, or that floor, or that field or that track that gets me a little misty-eyed. So not only was this the end of an era for Newcastle Cross Country, it is also the beginning of the end of an era for me and other parents who are preparing to" let their last child go. Fortunately, many of our kids are two or three sport athletes who will transition to the winter and spring sports seasons, so we will get the opportunity to still see our kids in action. The downside to that, of course, is that we get to go through this whole sadness thing again when those seasons come to a close. The end of this era is definitely bittersweet. We're sad to see it go, but so very happy to have been able to be a part of it. L/S .............
