An exciting night

Head Dogie football coach
Matt Conzelman knew this
season would be one for the
books as COVID-19 threw a
monkey wrench into the fall
sports season, but the team
was excited to head to Hot
Springs, SD last Friday to get
under way.
From the start, the contest
was tight with both teams
giving it everything they
had, and in the course of 32
minutes of play, there were
close calls, unforeseen inju-
ries, history making moments
and ended with a nail biter
that had the Bison kneeling
on the ball to take the 13-7
victory over the Dogies.
“It was exciting, but we
probably the most fun I’ve
had in a game that we didn’t
win. We would drive down
and stall or have a bad snap,

Slade Roberson broke free from the Bison defense and was headed for the
endzone last Friday in Hot Springs.

the end of the play and was sidelined for the remainder of the contest.
Bobcats prevail over Dogies
Sonja Karp

Friday night, fans were treated to
the first Weston County Civil War
in volleyball as the Lady Bobcats of
Upton came to town to face off against
the Lady Dogies in both team’s season
opener.
Newcastle won the first battle by
defeating Upton in the JV contest in
two straight sets, but the Lady Bobcats
rallied to win the war by sweeping the
Lady Dogies in three in the varsity
matchup.
“I felt like the varsity had every-
thing in place, but we just couldn’t
get our serves and our hits to hit home
which is just giving them free points,”
head coach Keeley Anderson admitted.
“Our coverage and our passing was
right where it should be and it looked
awesome, so I’m going to chalk up
those unforced errors to first game
jitters. Thankfully, we were able to
