Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department held its annual pre-fair pancake
breakfast on Saturday morning. The event was in the parking lot of
First State Bank in Newcastle. While the event was free, donations
were accepted. The public donated about $800 during the event,
which will be used to supplement NVFD’s budget, but the bank’s
donation has not been finalized yet, according to NVFD Chief Robert
Munger. NVFD supplied the tables, chairs and equipment, and also
supplied the bulk of the labor to feed the crowd. Supplies were also
given by the generous donations of Woody’s Food Center and First
State Bank. Woody’s also supplied prizes handed out in the drawing.
During the event, volunteers poured about 14 gallons of pancake mix,
Munger said. He had no idea how many sausages were cooked or how
many people were served, since the people working were so busy that
they couldn’t take the time to count!
