This year's Art Show was moved up a week, which gave families
who visited for high school graduation a better chance to view the
displays in the Newcastle High School Dogie Dome on Thursday,
May 14 and Friday, May 15--just before NHS' commencement
ceremony.
NHS Art Instructor Jimmie Josephson indicated there was only
positive feedback from the change, and expressed the hope that it will
be able to be held on the same week next year because it also gave the
seniors the opportunity to display their work, which was an exciting
change, according to the instructor.

The increased attendance and participation this year also made for
interesting results when votes were tallied for a Student Choice Award
and a Community Choice Affard in place of the judging that had
taken place in previous years.
'!The Elements of Creation and the Face of our Own Destruction," an
acrylic painting by Jade Haggerty, won the most' student votes, with
"Love is Poison" a drawing by Rehanna Payne taking second, fol,
lowed by a drawing by Keri Bissey entitled, "Old Man Study."
However, the community choice favorite was the latter drawing
by Bissey, with her oil painting, "Family Tree," in second place,
and Haggerty's acrylic painting ~eceiving third place. With the votes
divided, Josephson announced both Bissey and Haggerty as Best of
Show recipients.
