25 YEARS AGO . . .
A deal has been closed whereby
Ora G. and Sadie J. Frazine have
councilmen. The other, M. C. Ro-
berts for mayor and.Frank Cum-
mings and George Noyes for the
council. When the votes were
counted Tuesday evening, R. An-
dersen, losing one precinct, by 26
votes, had piled up almost a two
to one lead, in the other precinct
and he was elected by a majority
of 53, nearly 400 votes being cast
With him was elected the two
councilmen on the same ticket
Following are the names of the
teachers elected at a recent meet-
ing of the school board of District
Number One, for the city school
.of Newcastle for the ensuing
year: IIigh school -- O. C. Kear-
ney, superintendent; Ethel Gra-
ham, principal; Ollie Hulse, agri-
culture; J. J. Wadsworth, shop
work; Belva Jennison, normal
training; Alma Garman, Home
economics; Elaine Bowman, Eng-
lish and library. Grades -- 1st,
Mary Jackson; 2nd, Mildred
Grieves; 3rd Mary Spearman; 4th,
alga Berg; 5th, Minnie Hendrick-
son; 6th, Theresa Wegher; 7th,
Olivia Pickle; 8th, Gertrude
Burns.
Christy Brothers Circus will
make its annual visit to Newcas-
tle about the 1st of June. There
will be the usual parade: etc.

the Meuse. But the casualty list
goes on. During 1924 more than
five thousand men died in the
United States from disabilities di-
rectly originating in their World
War~ service. Those are the deaths
officially recorded and certified
by the government as due to war
causes. There were others not
so of record. Fifteen every day.
Mr. and Mrs. Kalil Farah en-
tertained at a 6:30 dinner last
night in their apartments, the oc-
casion being the 25th anniverary
of t h e i r wedding. C o v e r s
besides members of the family
were laid for Dr. and Mrs. N. E.
Wells and son, Elmore, Mrs~ Lou-
isa Faehndrich and Dr. E. E. La-
Frienier. Mr. and Mrs. Farah
were the recipient of many beau-
tiful and costly gifts, of silver
from friends here and relatives

were married May 6, 1900.
H. H. DeVol left today to de-
liver five autos sold during the
past few days. Among the ma-
chines is a new Willy-Knight Six
sedan which was purchased by
Thomas Harrison, of the Cambria
Coal Mining company.
Walter Schoonmaker of Cam
bria was a business' caller in this
city Tuesday.
