Last Saturday evening he was compelled to remain out in the cold and rain all night, arriving at Hampshire eight o'clock Sunday morning. We are in hopes that the county will build the necessary bridges across the creeks on the mail route this summer. J. H. Pridgeon and L. S. Wade have drilled a well at Pridgeon's and are now drilling on L. S. Wade's in the Howard area. Frank Walker is helping. The last evening of the Horton Literary until next fail was held Friday evening with a social. T. J. Sherwood, the Moon merchant, was a business visitor in Newcastle Friday. Within the past ten days J. E. Blakeley has had three valuable horses die at his ranch on the prairie. The animals would drop suddenly, almost as though they were shot. Veterinarian Cox pronounces the trouble to be inflanmaation of the brain and caused primarily from the eating of mouldy oats that were in a stack to which the horses gained access. : The Northern Wyoming Telephone company has bought from W. R. Foster the Newcastle telephone system, and took possession on April 1st. This company has exchanges in Gillette, Moorcroft and Upton and long distance lines between these towns and also to Sundance. Frank Ertman, who has been employed here for the last two years, has decided to try farming for a while instead of mining. The funeral of Mrs. Geo. DeBow was held from the Cambria Methodist church last Thursday. A large crowd was present and filled the church to overflowing, which showed the respect and esteem in which she was held. 75 years ago -April 11, 1940 Clarence Hogland, Denver organist, played the Wedding March on the new Cathedral model Hammond electric organ at the marriage of Miss Mabel Blair of Buckhorn and Glen Everett Lamb of Newcastle at the Methodist church Monday afternoon. George Franklin, Skull Creek rancher, was hired as custodian of the Newcastle schools, at a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of District One here Monday. Franklin, a former resident of Cambria, is familiar with heating plants and their operation. A "housewarming" party was given at the new home of Mrs. Guy Hayward on last Friday evening by Mesdames Geo. Culver, Jr., Henry Tavegia, E. C. Raymond, Ralph Doyle, Lee Hayne, Rodney Guthrie, and Joe Aimonetto. Mrs. Hayward was duly surprised when the women arrived. Eddie and Carl Schulze, George DeBow, Bill Rosenberry, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dohnnan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Art Crowley and daughters, Harry Groner, Mr. and Mrs. Ray DeVolder, Mr. and Mrs. Doil Morgan were visiting at the Adam Groner in the Red Butte area Sunday. Rosco Michaels was honored at a surprise birthday party given by his wife Tuesday evening at their home. Five tables of "500" were in play during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mikesell and daughter Marilyn of Newcastle were dinner guests at the R. A. Dodge home Tuesday evening in Osage. Red Owl Ad: 10 lbs. sugar for 55 cents. Relatives of Mrs. Eva Johnson in the Fairview vicinity helped celebrate her birthlay at a surprise party Friday evening at the Carl Hays home in Newcastle. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Adkins and sons, Mrs. Theda Waggoner and twins, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Walker and sons and Ted Elliott and family and Lewis Adkins were from the Fairview area. 50 years ago -April 8, 1965 Water line replacements, garbage can lids and the sales tax increase were the main topics of business at the regular city council meeting Tuesday night. Tuesday from Mission, South Dakota. Mrs. Lester Updike of Osage spent Sunday checking the Weston County fire equipment and putting new licenses on the vehicles. He visited the ranches of Walter Ritthaler, David Cellers, Glen Darlington, Tony Farella and also checked equipment at the True Oil Co. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Mclntosh accom- panied by little Gary Groner spent the weekend in Denver, Colo. Visiting Miss Myma Mclntosh. They retumed home Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. "Dutch" Updike who had spent the weekend visiting their daughter Sharon at Laramie. She is survived by her children, Darwin Van Offeren, :Ninilchik;'A'laska, Janis Engle of Upton, Patti Kelly of Buckeye, :Ariz.; grandchildren, John Wallace, Jenny Mathill, Christi Wallace, Pat Moots, Mike Moots, Tamlin Engle, Ryan Barber, Andrea Barber; fourteen +one great-grandchildren; brother, Dick iWaldron of Spearfish, Dennis Fuller of Newcastle and her family 7at Mondell Heights. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Jack and Amy; husbands, Gordon and Dick; daughter, Vicky Boyles; grandchildren, Brandon Engle, Erin Engle and Gordon Moots; sisters, Joyce Ginsbach and Sheila Peterson. Visitation was from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at St Anthony Catholic Church in Upton with the Vigil following at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the church. Burial will follow at the Upton Cemete 'in Upton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Mondell Heights Assisted Living.
