£D. King
July I0, 1927 - March I, 2015
J. D. "Jay" King was born July 10,
1927, in Seymour Texas, to Ida Rachael
and George A. D. King. He joined three
older siblings, Wilburn, Lloyd and Gladys.
J. D. was affectionately called "Buddy" by
his Mother, was a popular boy in school
with many friends, and worked hard with
his father hauling freight. He passed away
after a brief illness on Sunday, March 1,
2015 in Casper, Wyoming at the age of 87.

/ high school in 1945 and
headed to California to
work in the oil fields.
He also worked in
the oil fields in Texas
and Wyoming, While
in Wyoming, he met
J.D. King and married Dagmaar
(Donnie) Hokanson in
Newcastle, Wyoming on June 13, 1949.
They continued to follow the rigs around
Wyoming and Montana until settling per-
manently at Hamilton Dome, Wyoming.
He and Donnie, by then the parents of
Linda, Lirry and Dale, did not want their
children to have to keep attending different
schools.
In November of' 1966, J.D. and the
family moved to Moorcoft, Wyoming after
J. D. accelJted a job with True Oil Company.
While in Moorcroft, J. D. worked as an
operator in the True gas plant. In 1973,
J.D. transferred to Arnegard, North Dakota
to work in the True gas plant there. It
was always a dream of J. D. and Donnie
to own and operate a motel, so in 1981,
they built and operated The Kings Inn in
Culbertson, Montana. J.D. loved to collect
and research coins. He was also very
interested in finance, spending countless
hours reading financial periodicals. J.D.
was also an avid bowler and served on
the Culbertson City Council. While in
Culbertson he worked for Koch where he
won several awards and cash prizes for
suggestions. He then worked for Phillips
Petroleum before retiring in 1992. J.D. and
Donnie sold the King's Inn and moved to
Newcastle, Wyoming to enjoy their retire-
ment. Donnie passed away on January
29,1999 in Newcastle.
On February 14, 2003 he married Lela
Eckard in Spearfish, South Dakota. J.D. and
Lela enjoyed 12 wonderful years together
and he always considered himself blessed
to have found love twice. They resided
in Sundance, Wyoming until moving to
Casper in September of 2012.
J. D. was a life long active member
of the Church of Christ and especially
treasured living and worshiping in Casper
where his step-son Chuck is the Minister.
He is survived by his wife Lela in
Casper, daughter Linda Blakeman (AI) of
Gillette, Wyoming, son Larry King (Gerri)
of Auburn, Washington, son Dale King
(Jane) of Hinckley, OH, step-son Chuck
Mathews (Vicki) of Casper, Wyoming,
step-daughter Kathie Scheurman (Bob) of
Houston, Texas, his especially treasured
little sister Peggy Roempke of Texas City,
Texas, as well as numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He was greatly
loved and will be sadly missed.
Services were held at the Church
of Christ, 2344 East Second, Casper,
Wyoming on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at
9:00am. Graveside Services and burial
followed at Greenwood Cemetery in
Newcastle at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the
family requests that donations be made to
Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson
St., Casper, Wyoming 82601. To leave a

Jamie Lynn Matlison
Oct. 2, 1981 - March 5, 2015
Jamie Lynn (Emmert) Mattison, age
33, passed away at her home in Salem,
Ore. on March 5, 2015 after a brave battle
against brain cancer. She was the daughter
of Debbie (Mahoney) and Jeff Emmert
formerly of Newcastle. Jamie was born in
Newcastle on October 2, 1981 and gradu-
ated from Newcastle High School in 1999.
Jamie enjoyed living lots of places and
doing lots of different things. She received
a teaching degree and taught in Alaska for
a year. She then married Brad Mattison in
Alaska and moved to Ft. Collins, Colo.
There the light of her life, Isabella, was
born.
She is survived by her husband Brad and
daughter Isabella of Salem, Ore; Brad's
mother and sister of Ore.; her parents Deb
and Jeff of Hamilton, Mont.; her brothers,
Jordan of Mont. and Jake (Shelby) of
Idaho; three uncles and their families,
Dan Mahoney of Kaycee, David Mahoney
of Eaton, Colo., and Dean Emmert of
Newcastle. Jamie is also survived by many
relatives in the Newcastle area.
She was precededin death by her grand-
parents Eugene and Luella Mahoney and
Larry and Joyce Emmert, all of Newcastle.
No services are scheduled at this time.

100 years ago -
March 11, 1915
Last Thursday evening the
members of the local bar gave
a dinner party at the Riordan
in joint honor of retiring judge
of this district, Honorable
C. H. Parmelee, and the
newly appointed Judge E. C.
Raymond. Attorney Alfred H.
Beach presided as toastmaster
and short talks were made by
Judges Parmelee and Raymond,
Attorneys Fakler, Marts,
Zachman, Itsley and court
reporter Dolezell.
E H. Knapp of the Fairview
area journeyed to Newcastle for
supplies Monday. He considers
himself fortunate, this being
only the second trip he has had
to make to town this winter.
The young folks of the
Beaver Creek area have turned
the loft in L. R. Key's barn into
a roller skating rink.
Herma Bartholomew closed a
six months' term of school at the
Pridgeon school on last Friday,
and the event was celebrated
with a dinner which included ice
cream at which several patrons
and guests were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Rockwell
came into Cambria from the
ranch Sunday to look after their
daughter, Isabelle.
Mrs. Arch Kirkwood is
teaching the second room at
Cambria during the absence of
Miss Julia Rockwell.
The big boiler recently
installed for the mine is not
working as well as was expected,
there being trouble in keeping up
the requisite pressure of steam.

March 14, 1940
Business paused for an hour
Thursday afternoon in respect
to the memory of H. A. Bettis,
63, while funeral services were
being held here at the Methodist
church for the state official and
former county clerk. Bettis,
a twenty-six year resident of
Newcastle, died in Rapid City
hospital following a major
operation.
Charles Burnett, resident
of the Prairie, who operates a
sawmill near Devils Tower, is in
the Sundance hospital seriously
injured as a result of an accident
at the mill last week. BurneR,
who is 57 years old, was oiling
part of the machine when raising
up, he struck the saw blade,
which cut into the center of his
head extending from the top of
the forehead back to the base of
his skull. Latest report was that
he is improving gradually but
his condition is very critical.
The George Monroe Post of
the American Legion is planning
for the erection of a memorial to
the ex-service men who claimed
Weston County as their home
and served during the World
War in U. S. Military or naval
forces. The tablet will contain
approximately 375 names. The
monument will be placed near
the library.
Mr. A. J. Bensen and Mrs.
Warren Julien will be hostesses
to the members of the Arts
and Crafts department of the
Departmental club at a regular
meeting Thursday.
Mrs. Matilda Adams enter-
tained the Sew and So club on
Thursday at her home with 20
members and 7 visitors present.
Wm. Riehemann of Skull
Creek was pleasantly surprised
on his birthday by a group of
neighbors. Woods, Baldwins,
Browns, Roarks and Moodys
all enjoyed the evening playing
cards, and left after enjoying a
delicious lunch.
Mrs. Anna Pollat and Mrs.
Coila Brannaman attended
county council meeting Tuesday
as delegates from the Progressive
Arms club.
Mr. and Mrs. John Knipp
went to Newcastle Saturday and
brought out a shipment of baby
chicks, the first in the Fairview
area.
Kenneth Adkins helped Earl
Tanner install some repairs in
the Fairview school bus Sunday.
The Osage bowling team
made a trip to Edgemont
Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Schulze
and family of the Four Comers
area motored to Elk Mountain
Friday after a load of hay.
The Wyoming public labo-
ratory has already distributed
enough Rocky Mountain
Spotted Fever vaccine to treat
2,943 persons.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bums of
the Riggs Lease were visiting
relatives in Osage and Newcastle
Saturday.
The Legion dance in Osage
on Saturday night was well
attended. Otis Teagarden and
family played.
50 years ago -
March 11, 1965
Teams from eight junior
high schools in this region will
compete Friday and Saturday
in the ninth annual Newcastle
Lions club junior high basket-
ball tournament.
The Newcastle Dogies won
one game and lost two during
the northeast district basketball
tournament held last week in

Buffalo. The Dogies lost the
opening game to Gillette 83 to
54, defeated Douglas 77 to 61
but were eliminated from the
tournament by Buffalo 57 to 53.

Lambda chapter of Delta
Kappa Gamma held their March
meeting Thursday in the hos-
pitality room of the National
Bank with 12 members present.

The Daughters of the Nile
Mystic Club met at the home of
Mrs. John Brorby Tuesday with
Mrs. Wallace Haas as cohostess.
Nine members were present for
the meeting.
Beverly, Marilyn and Janet
Pzinski stayed overnight with
Mr. and Mrs. George Pzinski
Wednesday.
Mrs. Eunice Lissolo, Mrs.
Rita Rawhouser, Mrs. Judy
Pzinski and daughters had lunch
together Saturday while shop-
ping in Newcastle.
The Osage Grade School is
dismissed for all students Friday
so those who wish may attend the
Newcastle Lions club basketball
tournament. The Osage team
meets Hill City in their first game
at 11:30 a.m. If Osage wins, they
will play for the championship
with the winner of the Lance
Creek-Sundance game.
